2024 Funding Announcement

January 24, 2024

In 2023, the BRCA Research & Cure Alliance (CureBRCA) initiated an open call for research applications resulting in $2.3 million distributed among five essential research endeavors. These research projects collectively include global collaborative studies addressing prevention, multi-institutional screening efforts, and outreach to identify and provide more resources for male carriers of prostate cancer that is associated BRCA1/2 mutations. It is our hope that this research could be pivotal to understanding prostate cancer risk, prevention, and interception and bring hope to the multitude of BRCA gene mutation carriers.

23andMe Cleared to Report 41 More BRCA Mutations

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved 23andMe, which makes at-home genetic tests, to report the presence of 41 more variants, or mutations, of the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes that are linked to a higher risk of developing breast, ovarian, prostate, and pancreatic cancers.

FDA approves niraparib and abiraterone acetate plus prednisone for BRCA-mutated metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer

August 29, 2023

On August 11, 2023, the Food and Drug Administration approved the fixed dose combination of niraparib and abiraterone acetate (Akeega, Janssen Biotech, Inc.), with prednisone, for adult patients with deleterious or suspected deleterious BRCA-mutated castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC), as determined by an FDA-approved test.

FDA approves talazoparib with enzalutamide for HRR gene-mutated metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer

On June 20, 2023, the Food and Drug Administration approved talazoparib (Talzenna, Pfizer, Inc.) with enzalutamide for homologous recombination repair (HRR) gene-mutated metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC).
